About Joann's Fine Foods

Introducing Joann's Fine Foods Restaurant, I usually start by telling people that this spot feels like one of those places you stumble into once and then keep thinking about long after you leave. Located at 1224 S Congress Ave, right in the heart of Austin, Joann's Fine Foods brings a laid-back Tex-Mex restaurant vibe that fits the neighborhood perfectly. From the moment you walk up, the atmosphere feels welcoming and unpretentious, which makes it easy to relax whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or settling in for a longer meal. The menu leans heavily into comfort food with bold Tex-Mex flavors, but it also keeps things flexible, offering vegan and vegetarian options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. If you’re the type who enjoys sampling a little of everything, the small plates are a solid way to go, especially when paired with one of their cocktails or a cold beer. Speaking of drinks, Joann's Fine Foods knows how to handle happy hour, with both happy-hour food and drinks that make it tempting to linger a bit longer than planned. Wine, spirits, and late-night food are also part of the mix, which makes the place feel equally suited for early evenings and spontaneous night outings. Service options are another strong point here, since you can choose outdoor seating on pleasant Austin days, dine in when you want the full experience, or grab takeaway if you’re on the move. Delivery is also available, which is handy when you’re craving Tex-Mex flavors without leaving home. Overall, Joann's Fine Foods comes across as a confident, easygoing restaurant that understands its audience, balancing classic comfort with modern preferences while keeping the experience casual, friendly, and very Austin-appropriate.

Had Kevin as our server, he was great. I ordered chilaquiles, portions kinda small, it was a small ramiken of beans . My brother got the chicken fried steak, now that was a real plate of food! I’d get the chips and queso every time. The atmosphere alone is worth going for!

Great diner on South Congress which stays true to its roots and has a great unique Austin style. Food is great, especially for brunch with classic texas fare with a little texmex sprinkled in

Edit: A manager contacted me and told me they don't charge for one syrup. It was a mistake on the server's part. I told him it was still a really good pancake. I just would have brought a bottle of syrup with me on my next visit. First time visitors. Very disappointed they charge 75 cents for syrup! I ordered a blue corn pancake. It did not come with syrup. I asked our waitress for syrup. She never told us there was an additional charge. I've never been charged for syrup when ordering a pancake at any other restaurant. The host was very kind and pleasant. They were very busy, yet everything was expeditious once we were seated. We opted to sit at the counter in lieu of the 20-30 minute wait. Our server was nice. She checked on us immediately after the food was brought out and we didn't hear from her again until we were finished eating. The hash browns were cooked perfectly crispy. So many places have hash browns that are crispy on the top and mushy in the middle but these were perfect! The pancake was delicious! I only wish I could have combined blueberry and banana instead of having to choose just one.

I absolutely loved this place on South Congress! I’ve been wanting to come here for quite some time, and I’m so happy my girlfriend and I finally got to enjoy a lovely brunch here for her birthday. I tried some Banana cocktail, which was surprisingly delicious, and our food was amazing. I had the tuna melt — the bread was perfectly toasted and sliced, and it came with a fresh side salad. My favorite part was definitely the salad dressing, which had this orange and ginger base that was absolutely delicious. The outdoor ambience was great too — it’s got this retro, cool, yet modern vibe that makes it such a fun spot to relax and enjoy a meal.

The happy hour at Joann's Fine Foods is hard to beat! The food is delicious and the portions of the appetizers are plenty big for sharing. We got the hashbrown nachos and the shrimp aguachile (not included in the happy hour but definitely worth it), and both were spectacular! Joann's is perfect for a happy hour or get together with the girls and I will definitely be back for brunch sometime soon!

Hello Patio Weather Season!? -ish..... Apparently my husband has been waiting all year for the polenta to come back onto the menu. Combine that with a random cool brisk day in ATX and patio here we come. We came for the polenta but got the benefits of trying out some Happy hour bites and bevies. Everything.was.on.point here. Waiter is amazingly on it but not overbearing (iykyk). The polenta was better then remembered and worth the wait. We ordered one but had to order another because the whole table couldn't get get enough of this goodness. The depth of flavor, the quality of ingredients just sells itself. This is a must try guys. Catch ot while it's still in season. Also another star of the show is their Tommy Marg. It's hit or miss what a $5 marg might get you but let me tell you - the freshness of this marg I cannot stop dreaming about. This is a place we could frequent for sure.

I got the chalupa and breakfast Sando. The chalupas surprisingly was more like a tostado. A deep fried corn tortilla underneath a bed of beans, chicken, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. The chicken was very very juicy and I think they may have used dark meat only. That being said, for $23 the portion was rather small of only two “chalupas” picture above, with no sides. The breakfast sandwich was good, but thing to write home about. What I will say though is that the side salad I had, you get the pick your dressing and I got the carrot vinaigrette. 5/5 for the dressing. It was a thicker dressing, almost like a dipping sauce consistency. Intense carrot flavor profile with a good tartness. You almost had to use ur fork to scoop some out and smear on the lettuce to eat it like a spread as opposed to a dressing. I really liked the taste and highly recommend the carrot vinaigrette.
